Decadence of Western Capitalism permeates our society...hmmm...

from last night's cloudy experiences after a Mai-Tai, Graveyard and gin tonic @ forbidden city and rav, it has occured to me that the growing nightlife in Singapore is a reflection of the increasing moral decadence of our Asian society due to the affluence generated by our western styled capitalist ways.

the young and rich, high flying corporate executives and expatriates - representatives of the soul of our economy indulge in alcohol, cigarettes and mad partying till the wee hours of the morning.

i have a problem with that. parties end way too early. 3am is really neither here nor there. and we still gotta pay midnight surcharge on cabs.

it seems that as people grow older we tend to pick up habits and tastes that our idealistic righteous youth rejected for its supposed evil. the oldies drink stout (bitter) or gin tonic (which smells corrosive) and other forms of pure hard liquor instead of the daiquiris or magaritas consumed by teenagers or the Cokes and sodas of the kiddies. once upon a time, i'm sure many of us thought we would never put a cigarette between our lips and take a long puff; these days many do though i still don't. life can get terrible and gut wrenching very frequently and these are just our routes to temporary escape.

and we run. keep on running.
